The global increase in energy demand necessitates the exploration and expansion of sustainable energy sources. Despite their efficiency in generating power, offshore wind turbines are susceptible to corrosion, which, combined with fatigue, can become one of the most destructive failure mechanisms. This thesis presents a comprehensive report of effort to develop a corrosion-fatigue model. The primary focus of this work is on the pitting corrosion mechanism in low-carbon steel and the fatigue strength degradation due to various pit configurations. The research consists of an innovative advanced numerical model and in-situ measurements to improve understanding and prediction of pitting corrosion and its impact on fatigue life.
