The 'EnerGhentIC - CAPTURE Café' is honoured to welcome Professor Michael E. Webber, one of the world’s leading voices on the complex challenges surrounding energy and the energy transition, for a special free lecture in Ghent.
Webber is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin and a researcher, educator, author and internationally recognised energy expert. His work brings together engineering, policy, innovation and business to explore one of the defining questions of our time: how do we build an energy system that is reliable, sustainable and fit for the future? His mission: to change the way the world thinks about energy! We are particularly honoured to welcome him to Belgium and to bring his unique international perspective to the EnerGhentIC & CAPTURE communities.
Michael Webber is known for his ability to connect the different pieces of the energy puzzle. His expertise ranges from electricity grids and electrification to clean molecules such as hydrogen, the built environment, and the complex links between energy, water, food and waste. He is also the author of several widely acclaimed books, including Power Trip: The Story of Energy and Thirst for Power: Energy, Water and Human Survival, making complex energy questions accessible to audiences far beyond the academic world.

The afternoon will open at 14:00 with a short introduction by Prof. Jan Mertens, also CSO at Engie, who will set the scene for Michael Webber’s lecture. This will be followed by a keynote talk by Michael Webber and an interactive Q&A session. Afterwards, we invite you to continue the conversation over drinks until 16:30.
